It has been more than twenty years since I was first introduced to New York’s Hudson River Valley. I became a homeowner there after being seduced by its natural beauty, architectural vernacular and spectacular landscapes. I designed HUDSON VALLEY TOILE for reasons not dissimilar to those that inspired my Harlem Toile De Jouy: as a way of sharing personal stories and visual tropes, poking fun and raising questions. Each of the six vignettes in my wallpaper, which is hand-printed in the Hudson Valley, lampoons one of the positively quirky, sometimes challenging, yet ever-changing points of view deeply woven into the curious culture and unique environment that has shaped my experience in the historic Hudson River Valley. I am honored to have this wallpaper design in The Brooklyn Museum’s wallpaper collection.
Each roll of HUDSON VALLEY TOILE wallpaper is hand screened (colored ink on coated paper) and is 27″ wide x 5 yards long. The vertical repeat of this wallpaper is 30.55″ and horizontal repeat is 27″. The minimum order is 4 rolls with a lead time of two weeks from placement of order. Please check with a professional wallpaper installer before ordering as our wall coverings cannot be returned or exchanged.
