Harlem Toile de Jouy Hand Screened Wallpaper

$300.00 per roll

As an African American living in Harlem, I have always been intrigued and inspired by the historical narrative of the decorative arts, especially traditional French toile with its pastoral motifs from the late 1700s. I’m entertained by the stories these patterns tell and the questions they sometimes raise. But after many years of searching for the perfect toile for my own home, I decided that it quite simply didn’t exist. My Harlem Toile wallpaper (which lampoons some of the stereotypes deeply woven into the African American experience), has been featured in the Studio Museum In Harlem, the Cooper Hewitt Museum, the Museum of Art and Design in New York City, the Musée De La Toile De Jouy in France, San Francisco’s Museum of the African Diaspora, the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC; and the Victoria & Albert Museum. Our hand screened Harlem Toile wallpaper is 27″ wide x 5 yards long with a 30″ repeat. There is a four roll minimum for standard orders (four rolls in one color only), and the lead time is 4-6 weeks.

We strongly suggest having a professional wallpaper installer measure your walls and confirm the necessary yardage before ordering, as our wall coverings cannot be returned or exchanged and we do not provide estimates based on your measurements.
